Out of this world color, the Solar Eclipse Foamy Bells PP23647 (xHeucherella 'Solar Eclipse') is an evergreen perennial with fabulous bi-color foliage. The gorgeously lobed leaves have a cinnamon-red center with a lime-green border for a standout two-tone show!
Forming brilliant mounds of foliage that create neat and tidy rounded clumps, sometimes having more green than red depending on the time of year and how much sun they receive. Each leaf is certainly a masterpiece in itself, but taken together the mounding form of your Solar Eclipse will be a stellar dash of color in your yard. You'll want to plant this specimen front and center for all to admire.
Late spring brings tall wiry stems with a bottlebrush spray of dainty white starry blossoms! Held on yellowish-green stems, the effect is cosmic! It'll charm you and the local pollinators who will flutter by to check out the scene.
Growing just 10-16 inches in height, the mounds can form 16-inch wide clumps that gradually expand in size and can be divided after a few years to fill your landscape with vibrant color even further! Heat, humidity, cold, deer, pest, and disease resistant - what more could you ask for this space-saving perennial? Foamy Bells are even semi-to-fully evergreen in mild winter climates throughout USDA plant hardiness zones of 4 to 9!
Planting and Application:
Your Solar Eclipse is prized for its dramatic foliage that stands out in any landscape. The deeply lobed, yellow leaves are tinted with a subtle lime green and delicate splashes of red along the veins. Mixing and matching with amber, red, yellow, and chartreuse foliage beautifully, magenta, orange, and purple foliage plants will help them stand out even more!
Try pairing this unique hybrid Foamy Bells with its Coral Bells and Foam Flower parent plants that have equally colorful leaves! Or mix these visually stunning perennials with other penumbra residents like Ferns, Bergenia, and Brunnera!
As a shade-loving plant, use Solar Eclipse Heucherella to spice up areas of your garden that don't get as much sun. Places like under your fully grown maple trees or as a foundation plant on the north side of your house. These would look amazing in your Rock garden, edge of the woods, naturalized area, upscale Cottage gardens, or anywhere you need a showy groundcover!
Try using this filler and spiller plant as colorful edging along the fronts of your landscaping beds, or encircling larger trees and shrubs where Solar Eclipse will happily bask in their canopy. Even container gardens, shaded porches and patios planters, and window boxes will gain a color boost!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
This hybrid Perennial is fast-growing, so you won't have to wait long to see it light up your yard with its vibrant colors. Depending upon the amount of sun or shade, your plant will display varying shades of yellow or green, so you can have some control over how you want it to look.
Requiring moist humus-rich, well-drained soil, Foamy Bells are not particular on soil type, just be sure they won't ever dry out. A good 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch will help with that by maintaining soil moisture and insulating the roots.
Prune these little plants in the very early spring to clear away old foliage and freshen up the mounds. You can deadhead the flowers as soon as they fade or snip the blossoms for indoor bouquets if you'd prefer to keep your Foamy Bells as a foliage plant exclusively!
