Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Important Notes
Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Growing Zones 4-9
Two seasons of double the color! Choose our Sedum ATLANTIS™ (Sedum takesimense 'Nonsitnal') to create a show-stopping look in your landscape! Growers love the look of this Proven Winners® selection! ATLANTIS™ features lush green and creamy yellow variegation, held in rosette-like branches that look beautiful on their own. It's also simply stunning in combination with other plants.
The multi-tiered arrangement of the beautifully scalloped leaves makes this perennial one-part art and one-part magnificent specimen from Mother Nature's bounty. It's sure to spark visual excitement wherever it's planted! The pinkish new growth adds a third dimension to the already stunning variegation!
Get ready each summer for Sedum's splendid show of pink buds that pop open into sunny yellow star-shaped flower clusters! These certainly herald the season and add a cheery touch to your lawn. Butterflies and hummingbirds are instantly drawn to these sweet flowers, adding to the fun of owning Sedum ATLANTIS™ for yourself! But the show is not over! This Sedum gains a rosy hue in fall, adding a touch of excitement to your autumn landscape.
Also known as Stonecrop, these are low-growing and hardy perennials that thrive throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 9! This variety can remain semi-evergreen in warmer climates and mild winters too!
Planting and Application:
This showy perennial is low-growing but takes the spotlight as a front-of-the-border accent and especially as edging! Plant ATLANTIS™ in an upscale Cottage garden, formal Rock Garden, or Xericscaping bed where it will grab your attention instantly!
Plant multiples in rows alongside a garden path, and thrives in the harsh hell strip along the road or sidewalk. Sedum thrives in drier soils, is a welcome addition to the rugged conditions of the average sun garden, and is recommended for use around the fire-wise landscape!
A hardy landscape plant that can really bring a bed or garden to life, we also love the dimensional look and the contrasting colors of ATLANTIS™ Stonecrop for potting alongside succulents or even on its own for a fabulous container garden plant!
Got a spot in your yard that you don't really want to mow and tend to? Sedum is perfect as groundcover or for adding to hilly areas that are notoriously hard to groom! This plant is great for those with a landscape in need of a splash of color, or for a plant owner who sometimes forgets to water their garden from time to time! Fill a wide, open area with a mass planting to pretty up large drifts of bare ground and slow erosion on slopes.
- Fabulous Variegated Green/Cream Succulent Leaves
- Visually Exciting Plant!
- Rosy Fall Color
- Pollinator-Friendly Pale Pink Buds Open to Yellow Stars
- Interest All Season Long
- Easy-Care Groundcover, Ideal for Rock Gardens, Beds, Paths & Containers
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Semi-evergreen in warmer zones, low-maintenance Stonerop does well in full sun and well-drained soil with medium-to-low moisture requirements, making it an easy-to-grow perennial you'll cherish for many seasons to come. Despite being a water-wise plant, we recommend that you protect your investment by providing supplemental water in a prolonged drought. But Sedum also appreciates a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch chips around the root zone to keep more moisture consistency in the soil.
For a clean-looking appearance, remove the old foliage before new growth begins in the early spring. Once you plant it and get it well established, you'll never have to bother with it again, save for when you want to divide it to share with friends or to expand its territory in your own garden.
- Best Color in Full Sun
- Thrives in Almost Any Well-Drained Soil Type
- Drought Tolerant/Xeric Once Established
- Prune Down Early Spring
- Deer & Rabbit Resistant
