Big, bright red blooms, the Furman's Red Salvia (Salvia greggi 'Furman's Red') is an extremely long blooming selection that will add bold color to your sun garden beds and borders! Aromatic and blooming in flushes from May until October!
The profusion of tall stately flowering spires is backed by aromatic lush green, neat crinkly foliage that forms smaller rounded mounds. It is valued for its tightly branched, upright growth habit and the crimson to scarlet flowers are an absolute favorite of Hummingbirds and butterflies. You will love the beautiful cut flowers and its fragrance is light and pleasant herbal Sage.
Also called Furman's Red Texas Sage, this eye-catching perennial Salvia grows throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 10, enjoys warm temperatures, and is moderately drought tolerant once established. Growing up to 2 feet in height and width, these bold red blooms love sun, heat, and humidity!
Planting and Application:
With its high-impact color, Salvia are wonderful accents and specimens! But this stunning red flower is too good to plant all alone! Groupings will create a bright spot that will be the envy of everyone who sees it! You will not just want one gorgeous Furman's Red, but to amplify the bold hue in groupings of three or five! If you place the plants so they form a triangle or a sweep, the Furman's Red plants will grow together to make one clump of amazing color!
You will love the results when you mix Furman's Red with colorful sun perennials like Purple Coneflowers and Tall Garden Phlox, or yellows like Black-Eyed Susan! As at home in the Cottage garden, Prairie and Wildflower garden, and mixed perennial garden as they are in the Rock Garden, the Xeric border, and the Cut Flower Garden!
Create tall bold red thrillers in planters in the sun, you'll add incredible presence around the pool, or fragrance when used around your seating areas, porches and patios!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Perennial Salvia like Furman's Red needs full sun for the most blooms and strongest stems and tolerates a wide range of soils requiring only that they quickly drain. Provide regular waterings for the first year in the ground, not allowing new plants to dry out. Then, just a bit of extra water is needed during dry spells and keeps the plant happy enough to encourage repeat flowers.
Furman's Red is a woody 2-foot herbaceous perennial that looks best if cut back in the early spring. Keep those bold blooms popping until fall with regular deadheading. A 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the roots keeps soil moisture more consistent and insulates the roots.
