Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment

Growing Zones
Happy and carefree, the Gay Paree Peony (Paeonia lactiflora 'Gay Paree') brings in all the joy of grand Paris with their ruffled centers that look like iridescent cream pompom centers tinged in barely-there pink and butter-yellow, nestled in a bowl of rich cerise-pink petals!
Gay Paree Peony is wonderfully fragrant and the perfect landing pad for pollinators like bees and butterflies! Flowering in the spring, these eye-catching two-tone blooms also look fantastic in bouquets where just a few will perfume the room and brighten your spaces both indoors and out!
Peony clumps remain small and tidy and Peony tubers are extremely long-lived and cold-hardy throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 8, and can grow into showy mounds 2-3 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide!
Landscape Application:
Gay Paree Peony makes fantastic low hedges and adds romance along walkways and paths! Their scent entices you further into the garden, around seating areas, and in your meditation areas! Dot throughout perennial beds and among early spring bulbs that shine happily while the Peony foliage emerges, then the bulbs happily sleep under the Peony leaves all summer.
Fantastic foliage and bright blooms for along the front of your foundation plantings, arrange around mailboxes and gazebos or fringe the base of trellis and arbors. Plant in porch and balcony planters or arrange a few in pots around your seating areas to keep the scent close!
Classics Cutting and Cottage garden additions, no pollinator border should be without a couple of Peonies and Gay Paree Peony is a must-have in the Pollinator border!
- Bowl-Shaped Cerise Pink Petals With Cream Pompom Centers
- Incredibly Fragrant Chinese Peony
- Showy Blooms For Bouquets
- Pollinator Friendly
- Gorgeous Perennial Borders, Groupings, Specimens & Garden Favorites
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Peonies thrive in the full sun but tolerate a touch of part shade in hotter growing zones, however, you'll notice fewer blossoms. Plant in soil that has excellent drainage and moderate moisture and is mulched well throughout the year. Deadhead once the flowers fade but keep the foliage up to make food for the tubers. In the fall, trim back the stems and remove them entirely from the area.
- Full Sun & Part Shade
- Very Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate To Low Moisture Needs
- Disease Resistant & Deer-Resistant
- Deadhead After Bloom & Prune to the Ground After Frost
