Ruffled and fringed flouncy petals of the gilded Garden Treasure Peony (Paeonia 'Garden Treasure') are buttery golden yellow with orangy centers. Each gorgeous bloom explodes from reddish buds and each is crowned with a golden ring of anthers that bees and butterflies love foraging for pollen and nectar amongst!

Backed by mounds of deeply lobed, pointed green leaves and held aloft on sturdy stems, the Itoh Peony plants can live for up to 50 years! Itoh Peonies were created by cross-breeding herbaceous Peonies with Tree Peonies, creating these fantastic new hybrids!

Garden Treasure Peony is extremely cold-hardy and grows fast from perennial rhizomes that have thick, fleshy roots with several 'eyes' each. These roots are hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 through 8.

Planting and Application:

These are fantastic blooms in the cottage garden, pollinator border, cut flower garden and even the Rock Gardens too! Use these as leafy accents after the flowers have faded for filler in the garden bed or along the garden path, the greenery is ideal for a seasonal backdrop for later emerging bloom and for shading spring ephemeral bulbs.

Garden Treasure Peony is a smaller-sized plant perfect for planters and large containers on sunny front porches, seating areas, and around the pool! The bright gold blooms seem to glow in the sunlight! These fragrant accents look great mixing and melding with almost any other type of flowering shrub or perennial!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Itoh Peony rhizomes have the strongest stems in full sun and grow best away from trees and shrubs, as competition for nutrients and moisture inhibits their growth. Plant in an enriched, well-drained environment. It is pretty low maintenance and prefers average moisture, in a decently sheltered environment for optimum growth, that also has good air circulation.

The enormous blooms may need staking to help support the stems against storms and the driving summer rain. Put down a 3-4 inch layer of arborist mulch chips around the base of your plant to hold in more moisture. For continued healthy growth, Deadhead the faded flowers and wait to trim down the foliage as the leaves begin to fade in the fall.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Moderate Moisture & Well-Drained Soil
  • Long-Lived & Cold Hardy
  • Deadhead After Blooms Fade & Prune Late Fall After Foliage Yellows

Information About Bareroot Peonies

Bareroot Peonies are shipped as nice, 3-5 eye bareroot divisions. Their woody roots are not uniform, it is normal for each root to look slightly different.

Nature Hills Nursery ships bare-root Peonies in the fall according to your growing zone to ensure they will remain dormant all winter until emerging in spring.
