Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: Give this plant full sun, meaning at least 6 hours of direct, unfiltered light daily to ensure the strongest stems and brightest blooms. While it can survive in partial shade, lack of sun often causes the stems to stretch, lean, and flop over.
  • Soil: Excellent drainage is non-negotiable for Russian Sage, so aim for gritty or sandy soil rather than heavy, wet earth. If you are working with heavy clay, plant in a raised bed or mound the soil up to ensure water drains away quickly from the crown.

Watering Requirements

Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy during the first growing season to help the roots establish deep into the ground. Once established, 'Blue Jean Baby' is incredibly drought-tolerant and actually prefers to be kept on the drier side to prevent the stems from becoming weak and floppy.

Pruning Tips
