• Sunlight: Give this iris full sun (at least 6 hours of direct light) for the most vibrant purple foliage and heavy blooming. While it tolerates partial shade—especially in hot climates—too much shade will cause the signature purple leaf color to fade to green faster and result in fewer flowers.
• Soil: This plant loves "wet feet" and thrives in moisture-retentive soil where other plants might rot. It is perfect for boggy areas, pond edges, or heavy clay soils that drain poorly. If you have sandy or dry soil, you must amend it heavily with compost or peat moss to help hold the moisture this plant craves.

Watering Requirements

Because this is naturally a wetland plant, consistent moisture is critical, especially during the first season while roots are establishing. Never let the soil dry out completely. Unlike many drought-tolerant perennials, if this iris lacks water, the colorful foliage will turn green prematurely and flower production will drop significantly. Pruning Tips

Since this iris is an herbaceous perennial, it blooms on new growth that emerges from the ground each spring.
