Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Container Size | Actual Volume | Metric Equivalent |
---|---|---|
2" x 2" x 3" | 0.18 - 0.21 dry quarts | 0.20 - 0.23 dry liters |

Important Notes
Container Volume Specifications
- Trade Gallon Standard: Our containers follow industry-standard "trade gallon" specifications established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI Z60.1) for nursery stock
- Volume Variations: Actual soil volume may vary due to plant root systems and growing medium settlement
- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment
Seasonal Availability
- Bare root plants are available seasonally when dormant
- Container plants are available throughout the growing season
- Specific varieties may have limited availability in certain sizes

Growing Zones 7-10
Spread delicious fragrance out along your garden paths and planting beds with low-growing Snow Girl™ Gardenia PP#30,239 (Gardenia jasminoides 'WAH-LM')! You and your garden guests will be amazed by the super lustrous, dark green foliage of this compact, mounded Gardenia cultivar!
Starting in spring, the single white flowers perfume your yard with buds that pop up above the glossy broadleaf evergreen foliage in a generous display! The scented, waxy flowers keep popping, intermittently reblooming through fall
Snow Girl™ is heat tolerant, handles Southern humidity effortlessly, and forms an 18 - 24 inch tall mound with strong branches that spread 2-3 feet wide. The dense broadleaf evergreen foliage remains glossy and tidy all year round with no fading or blanching in the sun!
Landscape Application:
Consider this a fine-textured, low-growing Gardenia a superb groundcover to bring lush, evergreen color all year to your front garden beds and edges! Layer them in the foreground underneath taller shrubs for a shiny ribbon of dark green foliage that catches the sunlight.
Space them 30 inches apart, or stagger a double row for faster results. Add several more staggered rows to create a mass planting at the feet of garden sculptures or flag poles. The sheen of the leaves will double the visual impact. Elevate your foundation planting or a weary evergreen hedge with a facer planting of gleaming year-round greenery!
Use them as tremendous "Fillers" in your outdoor garden containers, perfuming your outdoor garden rooms with their cheerful presence! Even Northern gardeners will enjoy their sub-tropical beauty for a season!
They'll be a cunning addition to a Gardenia collection or Moon Garden! Try underplanting an Aimee Gardenia Tree Form with petite Snow Girl™ Gardenias! They make a natural partner with Roses and Lavender in a Garden of the Senses. Line either side of your front walkway for a sensuous experience on the way indoors.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Snow Girl™ Gardenias will perform well in full sun in cooler climates, and in partial shade in hotter climates, with at least four to 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Keep in mind that you'll have the best flowering display in more sun. Give her well-drained, slightly acidic soils that remain moist with the help of regular watering and 3-4 inches of arborist bark chips around the entire root system. Prune to shape as needed after the first flush of flowers is finished. Remove crossing branches and any branches that may be damaged, trimming stems at a 45-degree angle.
- Full Sun & Part Shade
- Loves Mulched Organically Rich Acidic Soil
- Well-Drained Moist Sites
- Prune After Flowering
- Deadhead After Flowers Fade
