The Lapins Cherry is an incredible cross between the Van and Stella Cherry. It produces some of the largest and juiciest sweet Cherries and provides multi-seasonal interest.
In early in the season, your Lapins Cherry (Prunus avium 'Lapins') will be smothered in brilliant white blossoms. Pollinators will be arriving in droves to the display!
Then, midseason, you'll be delighted by an abundance of sweet, large, dark red to purple fruit with light red flesh. You'll be pleased to learn that these have been bred to resist splitting. You'll love this fruit!
Finally, in the autumn, your Lapins Cherry tree develops beautiful orange, red, and yellow fall colors. With great branching structure even in winter, these are handsome year-round!
The Lapins fruit is firm and so big that one cherry is a mouthful. The flavor is divine, incredibly juicy, and sweet. They are delicious right off the tree in mid-late summer, and wonderful for a wide range of uses!
What a tree!
How to Use Lapins Cherry Tree In The Landscape
Lapins Cherry Trees are precocious, which means they bear fruit at a young age, so you won't have long to wait for your first harvest! These high-quality trees begin fruiting around 3 - 5 years of age.
Be one of the first on the block to use dual-purpose edible landscaping by using ornamental plants that also provide healthy food for your family!
Picturesque as a specimen tree, or shade your patio or seating areas with the lovely foliage, Lapins fits into any sized garden!
Shade your garden beds and accent larger planting sites, or plant one outside your window so you can view your tree as it shows off spring, summer and fall! You’ll not want to miss a moment!
The firm, juicy fruit is fantastic in a wide range of uses; fresh eating right off the tree, still warmed by the sun, baked into juicy pies and pastries, made into preserves and jams, or frozen for later use! You’re friends and family won’t mind helping you use your harvest each year either!
#ProPlantTips For Care
Fruit trees all do their absolute best in full sun! Provide your tree at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day and plant in a site with great air circulation.
Plus, Lapins is cold hardy down to USDA hardiness zone 5-9! Mulch the root ball well to provide increased insulation from heat and cold, and to also maintain consistent soil moisture.
Fruit trees need consistent moisture and waterings, so protect your investment in times of drought by watering regularly. Add Nature Hills Root Booster while planting for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.
Cherry trees are widely adaptable to a broad range of soil types, but they prefer moist, well-drained soil for the best tasting, largest fruit. Neutral pH, on the ever so slightly acidic side between 6-7, is also best.
You can prune Lapins trees to control size to any height for easier harvest. Lapin’s compact habit makes it easy to maintain the tree's height for making bird netting a breeze. Try your hand at pruning your tree in Espalier form!
Lapins Cherry Tree is self-fruitful and does not require a pollinator to set fruit in most regions. They are considered the number one pollinator for the Bing in most areas and are great universal pollinators for other Cherry varieties.
We run out of this variety every year, so order yours at NatureHills.com today!
