The first perfectly dwarf Chaste Tree!

Have you ever seen a Chaste Shrub in full bloom? There is nothing quite like it - deep sky-blue spires reaching up like candles all over the ends of this shrub. It instantly commands attention in a garden! Unfortunately, you might not always have room for another tree in your garden.

Well, thanks to a new breakthrough in First Editions® plant breeding, we now have the first perfectly dwarf Chaste Tree that will fit into ANY garden! The Blue Puffball™ Chaste Shrub PP#26,775 (Vitex agnus-castus 'PIIVAC-Il') has the exact same characteristics of the tree form that you know and love, just in a perfectly compact ball-shaped plant!

The deep blue, fragrant flowers cover the bush from June through September. The flowers form on new growth, so even when they die back in the winter during cold snaps, you can expect a great summer show next year … every year! Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 6 to 9, there's little that bothers these tough plants!

Landscape Application:

Hummingbirds and Pollinators arrive in droves to sip the nectar of the Blue Puffballs™ fragrant blossoms! So turn any garden into a Butterfly garden by including this shrub as a backdrop planting or solo specimen! Use Blue Puffball™ with other pollinator-friendly blue flowering plants like Bluebeard shrubs, Catmint, Lavender, or Russian Sage in your garden and enjoy the fresh new take on lavender-blue spikey plants!

Create gorgeous accents in your Cottage garden or Rock Garden and don't forget the dense branching makes Blue Puffball™ an ideal low hedge or backdrop installation! Line a pathway or your driveway with a fragrant welcome home!

Dwarf Chaste Trees are perfect mixers among a mixed shrub border where they provide color and fragrance all summer and autumn long! Add to your front foundation hedge where the foliage and flowers contrast against dark evergreens, or use a row before your outdated fence line to spruce things up beautifully! Growing just 3 feet tall and wide, any garden can add one or more of these compact ornamentals!

Even container gardeners can enjoy an outstanding thriller in large planters and balcony container gardens! Try evenly spaced urns of fragrant Puffball Chaste Trees in big planters around the pool, or add some casters to a half whiskey barrel and have mobile shade and screening around backyard patios and porches!

  • First Ever Dwarf Vitex!
  • Tall Deep Blue Fragrant Flower Spires
  • Long-Lasting June to September Display
  • Aromatic Foliage & Compact Dwarf Form
  • Pollinator Friendly Blossoms!
  • Gorgeous Specimen, Container Thriller, Low Hedge & Screening

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Chaste Trees and shrubs need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day to flower their best and not get leggy. Plant in a well-drained soil location with moderate yet regular moisture access, however, established Chaste bushes are drought tolerant and low water usage plants. Provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch to protect the roots.

Blooming on new wood, you won't need to worry about a cold snap killing your plant back to the ground, it will regrow anew and bloom with no problem! Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges for shaping and renewal prune old branching out of established plants. Snip out 3-4-year-old stems entirely and allow new, vigorously blooming stems to take their place.

  • Full Sun Plants
  • Well-Drained Soil Needs
  • Moderate to Low Moisture
  • Blooms On New Wood - Prune Late Winter/Early Spring
  • Can Die Back & Regrow Completely After A Harsh Winter

Single Stem, Multi Stem, Shrub Form, Oh My!

Before you buy, make sure you know what you’re getting! Single-stem, multi-stem, and shrub forms are different so read a bit about which we’re currently offering below.

Single Stem:

These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stems when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching. Sometimes, you will hear a single stem referred to as Tree Form.

Multi Stem:

These are plants with 3, 4, and sometimes 5 or more stems planted together in the ground in close proximity to form a clump. There are times when multiple stems are formed by a tree that branches at the soil line with more than one main stem.

Shrub Form:

These are bushy plants with many stems and branches close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms!!!.
