Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant them in a sheltered, sunny spot with moist soils for best results. In Zones 6 and up, you can dig up the rhizomes in late fall; overwinter these stored dormant rhizomes until the threat of spring frost has passed.
- You can keep these in oversized containers as an excellent "Thriller". Just ensure your Canna has consistent water to keep the masses of broad, fleshy leaves healthy.
- Feed a slow-release fertilizer in spring. These are heavy feeders, please follow the directions on the label for application rate for each plant.
- In Zones 7 and higher, you'll simply prune foliage to the ground in late fall. It will reappear in spring
