Where to Plant

Sunlight: This variety thrives in full sun, needing at least six to eight hours of direct light to produce those tall, vibrant spikes. While it can handle light afternoon shade in hotter climates, too much shade often leads to floppy stems and fewer flowers.
Soil: These plants prefer loose, well-draining soil that is slightly acidic. If you have heavy clay, mix in organic compost or pine bark to improve drainage, as Lupines are prone to root rot if they sit in soggy "wet feet" over the winter.

Watering Requirements

During the first growing season, water your Lupine twice a week to keep the soil consistently moist while the deep taproot establishes itself. Once mature, Gallery Blue is moderately drought tolerant, but inconsistent watering during the heat of summer can cause the foliage to go dormant early or result in smaller flower spikes.
