Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

Growing Zones 5-9
This Proven Winners® ColorChoice® is out of this world! Introducing the Cityline® Mars Hydrangea Bush (Hydrangea macrophylla CITYLINE Mars 'Ramars') is an ornamental flowering shrub with spectacular blooms! As it ages, the mophead bloom will transform into a lovely, soft green, transition to pink and white, or blue and white, then fade to tan for fall and winter interest. It's a compact plant so it's easy to plant several in close quarters and small spaces.
Your Cityline® Mars Hydrangea is a small plant that produces glorious six-inch blooms atop strong stems. The blooms are bi-colored, with either a rose-white accent or blue-white, depending upon the pH of your soil. You can adjust the color of your flower by making additions to the soil pH as necessary.
Growing to a demure 1-3 mature feet in height and descent 3-4 feet mature spread, this wide-spreading, but lower-growing deciduous Bigleaf Hydrangeas are great for low hedges and property division! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 9, they tolerate heat but not full sun in the warmer of their favored growing zone range.
Planting and Application:
It would make an outstanding border plant, and would also be quite stunning as a container or patio plant as well. Go ahead and pop one into a large planter or container on your porch or patio, screening in seating areas and acting as a buffer between the sidewalk and the street. The glossy, dark foliage provides the perfect backdrop for the spectacular flowers, and its compact nature ensures a neat and tidy appearance in the yard that doesn't detract from the showy bloom.
The Hydrangea is a versatile shrub that looks great in almost any location! Drop one or more into a cottage garden, urban courtyard, or as a backdrop to your perennial garden! Pollinators adore these blossoms and you will too in your cutting garden! Snip a few of the blossoms for long-lasting indoor color for bouquets, or dry some for future use. The bloom is highly versatile and often used in crafts and other projects!
- Pink & White or Blue & White Depending on pH

#ProPlantTips for Care:
The Cityline® Mars Hydrangea is a hardy plant, adaptable to many conditions. For the most blooms and strongest growth, plant in full sun and partial shade, favoring morning sun and afternoon shade in the hottest of the USDA growing zones 5-9. Plant Hydrangea in moderate, and consistent moisture and enriched organic soil. Bigleaf Hydrangea bloom on new wood and usually all stems have a flower which is the amazing thing about this plant! Pruning is best done in the early spring as you see new growth starting to emerge, but only to remove stems that died back over the winter. Other pruning should only be done immediately after flowering to encourage branching to not accidentally remove next year's flowers.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade
