Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Standard Shipping Rates

At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. Plant Highlights

Butterfly Hotel highlights at a glance!

Give Your Butterflies a Place to Rest

This year, add charming habitat and nutrition for local butterflies and moths in your pretty garden! Our Butterfly Hotel comes with 25 purple "pom pom" Allium bulbs to plant in fall for a delightful spring display!

Carefully crafted from 100% FSC certified wood from well-managed forests without toxic glues or paints; NatureHills.com Butterfly Hotel makes an excellent gift for yourself, and the other nature lovers in your life. There's no messy or time-consuming "DIY" involved with our Butterfly Hotel, just choose a protected spot about four feet off the ground and hang the adorable shelter up once your Allium bulbs are planted!

Planting and Application:

Create a feature in your Butterfly Garden with a series mounted on posts through the length of your planting bed. Or, consider alternating them with our Bee Hotels for a look that is cute, functional and very helpful for Mason Bees, Monarchs and Swallowtails alike.

  • Plant a garden filled with flowers for season-long pollinator nutrition. Get important blooms very early in spring with perennial Hellebores; and tuck in other spring-flowering bulbs like Crocus, Daffodils and Tulips from NatureHills.com.
  • Butterflies prefer to visit calm, sheltered yards; so buy host plants like Spice Bush, Witch Hazel and native trees like Serviceberry and Paw Paw to block the wind. Study your garden beds, and include a few large, flat rocks that get lit up by the morning sun...butterflies love to start their day warming up their wings!
  • Place Puddling Stations nearby to provide muddy watering holes by filling a shallow saucer with dirt, sand and then add water. Mourning Cloaks and Red Admirals will surely appreciate a shallow dish filled daily with fruit such as overripe bananas, slices of orange and watermelon.
  • Butterflies definitely appreciate the narrow slots of this darling butterfly house; as they can fit inside easily to gain safety from predator birds. Provide plenty of places to overwinter by waiting to do any cleanup of your perennials and Ornamental Grasses until early spring.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Biodiversity is the key to success as you plan, grow and maintain your Butterfly Garden plants. Providing a varied menu of nectar and pollen resources is very important for good health and sufficient resistance; Responsible NatureHills.com offers many blooming plants for nectar and host plants for caterpillars.

  • Flower shapes act like beacons for different species of butterflies. There are around 750 species in North America; and they generally tend to prefer purple blooms with dots and stripes on the flowers.
  • Butterflies have long, rolling tongues and can easily access nectar from showy Allium sphaerocephalon. You'll get 25 bulbs with every kit to plant in fall...placing them three times as deep as the length of the bulb.
  • Fall-planted bulbs should be planted with the pointy end facing up. If you can't tell which is the pointy end; simply place it sideways in the planting hole and the plant will do the rest for you!
