Sun-Loving and Brings On The Tropical Drama
The Oakhurst Pineapple Lily (Eucomis 'Oakhurst') is a bold, sun-loving perennial with a fountain of deep burgundy, strap-like leaves and mid to late summer flowers that look like tiny purple pineapples. Heat-tolerant and cold-hardy to Zone 6, this tropical-looking bloomer adds exotic flair and long-lasting color to borders, containers, and cut flower displays.
Growing in a clump-forming, upright form about 18-24 inches tall, Oakhurst boasts glossy, purple-speckled foliage beneath its towering floral spikes. Each bloom cluster lasts for weeks in the garden and even longer in a vase!
Native to South Africa and related to the Asparagus family, this eye-catching bulb thrives in full sun and rich, moist soil. It's easy to overwinter in colder climates by lifting and storing the bulbs. With dramatic presence and deer resistance, this is one tropical beauty that plays well in temperate zones!

Important Notes For Growing Pineapple Lily In Colder Climates:
- Pineapple Lilies will bloom in a single growing season if started early enough. The key is to plant pre-sprouted bulbs or start them indoors 4-6 weeks before your last frost date, then transplant them outside once the danger of frost has passed.
- It typically blooms in mid to late summer, so short growing seasons (like USDA Zones 3-4) may still support flowering if the bulbs get an early start indoors.
- If planted directly into cool ground too late, the plant will produce foliage but fail to bloom before frost hits.
