This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Growing Zones 4-8
The pretty foliage clumps of the Othello Leopard Plant (Ligularia dentata 'Othello') fills out with huge leathery, toothed, heart-shaped, basal leaves for a fantastic spreading groundcover perennial! New leaves emerge purplish-red but turn to bronzy-green for the summer with deep purple undersides to the leaves for a pretty color contrast.
By midsummer, usually blooming from July to August, Othello becomes festooned in wonderful long-petalled, red-stemmed, yellow-orange daisy-like flowers that the bees and butterflies adore! Snip a few for bouquets to add bright mustard yellow informal blossoms to your floral designs! You will love the dark burgundy details at the center pompoms of each bloom!
Ligularia Othello has a height when in bloom of 2-3 feet tall, and can spread up to 4 feet wide. Hardy shade-loving plants that love higher moisture locations, Othello is hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8!
Planting and Application:
Use Ligularia as rings around shrubs, water features, and as specimen groupings around where the gutters drain or in that soggy patch by the HVAC unit where little more than moss seems to grow! In more stagnant situations, mound up the soil or create a raised bed.
Fantastic in mass plantings where these robust perennials can spread to fill in bare ground in the shade. While not only doing well in shade, Ligularia also handle all day dappled shade beneath the canopies of larger trees or shrubs, throughout woodland gardens!
Also known as the Bigleaf Golden Ray Ligularia, these perennials are fantastic wetland and Rain Gardens plants! Use Othello Leopard Plants along streams, ponds, pools or bog gardens! The dark foliage adds contrast to Cottage Gardens and mixed perennial borders in the shade.
- Big Petalled Yellow-Orange Flowers In Midsummer
- Thick Leathery, Heart-Shaped Toothy Leaves
- Pollinator Friendly Blooms
- Great Purple New Growth, Bronzy-Green Summer Foliage With Purple Undersides
- Wide-Spreading Wetland Shade Plants
- Groundcover, Groupings, Showy En Masse & Shade Garden Accents
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Ligularia Leopard Plants are vigorous perennials that need to be planted in full shade in hot climates, but can tolerate partial shade/partial sun locations in cooler climates. Plant in about any kind of rich, well-drained area and top-dressed with a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the roots. Leopard Plants must have moist soil and should never be allowed to dry out, doing well even in high moisture environments! Deadhead after flowers fade then clean the mounds in the fall and top with compost for the winter.
- Full Shade, All Day Dappled Shade & Afternoon Shade
- Rich Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to High Moisture Needs - Cannot Dry Out
- Deadhead After Flowers Fade & Prune Mounds In Late Fall
- Disease Resistant Perennials
Flouncy yellow daisy-like blooms, leathery toothy dark yet colorful foliage, and easy to care for growth, the Othello Bigleaf Golden-Ray Ligularia will light up your shade gardens when you order yours today at NatureHills.com!
