Sunlight: Give this hydrangea at least 6 hours of direct sun daily to ensure strong stems and the richest ruby-red color. While it thrives in full sun, gardeners in hotter climates should provide some afternoon shade to prevent the leaves from scorching during peak heat.
Soil: Plant in rich, well-draining soil that stays consistently moist but never soggy. If you are working with heavy clay, mix in compost or pine bark to improve drainage and help the roots breathe.

Watering Requirements

Smooth hydrangeas have shallow root systems, so you must check soil moisture daily during the first season to help the plant establish. Once mature, these plants will wilt dramatically to tell you they are thirsty; keeping the soil evenly moist prevents this stress and ensures a continuous supply of fresh blooms.

Pruning Tips

Because Invincibelle® Ruby blooms on new wood, you should prune it in early spring just as the new growth begins to emerge. Cut the stems back by about one-third to build a sturdy framework that keeps the heavy flower heads from flopping over during summer storms.

Fertilizer Needs

Apply a granular, slow-release fertilizer formulated for flowering shrubs in early spring to fuel vigorous growth. Avoid using high-nitrogen fertilizers late in the summer, as this encourages soft green growth that will be damaged by the first winter frost.

Invincibelle® Ruby Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens 'NCHA3') is the first-ever red-flowered Hydrangea - not some shade of pink, but an almost true burgundy red. The blooms start out a deep burgundy in the summer and slowly fade to a bright red and silvery pink - a truly eye-catching color combo!

The flowers just keep coming all summer and into fall, too. The massive blooms are held high on strong stems that are great for cutting. It only takes one of these huge flower blooms to fill a bowl on your table. Invincibelle® Ruby has large deep green leaves that really give the flowers center stage.

The handsome quilted and textured foliage makes them incredible background plants throughout the garden, even when not in bloom! Growing 3-4 feet in mature height and 2-3 feet in width. Gaining growth moderately throughout USDA growing zones 3-9, making these Smooth Hydrangea very cold-hardy!

Planting and Application:

Invincibelle® Ruby looks great in mixed borders and your home's foundation plantings. These smaller and more compact Hydrangeas are highly adaptable in large containers and planters! Any real cutting garden is empty without one, too. The dried flowers look great if left on the shrub all winter, but they are fantastic if dried and brought inside for the dreary winter months.

Let’s dance Moonlight bloom regularly - blue

Let’s dance Moonlight have bloomed regularly for about 10 yrs now against the house, mostly north exposure. Originally pink flowers when purchased but transitioned to purple and now blue in our soil. 3’ in ht. When nearby grass was limed they reverted to pinkish purple then back to mostly blue. We are zone 6b and with recent Very hot dry summers they wilt with the brief afternoon sun they get. Unfortunate. May have to consider moving them if these conditions continue every year. Otherwise very pleased with them

To protect the roots of the Hydrangea tree from harsh freeze-thaw cycles over the winter, apply a thick, 4- to 6-inch layer of mulch (like shredded bark or wood chips) around the base of the trunk, extending out to the drip line.
