The gorgeous Jos Eijking Sea Holly (Eryngium 'Jos Eijking') is a gorgeous textural accent for your garden and floral bouquets that is hard to miss! The dangerous-looking spiky texture looks reminiscent of a cactus, but the soft and soothing lavender, blue, and sage green hues are almost begging to be touched and admired up close!

The Thistle-like effect of the spiked sepals and leaves of these unique upright perennial flowers is amazing at keeping away unwanted trespassers, yet begs to be snipped and added to floral arrangements and mixed among all kinds of more delicate flowers to lend its unique shape to the landscape! #ProPlantTips for Care:

Sea Holly does best in full sun and sharply drained soils. Eryngium does not like to be overwatered. Preferring rich, fertile soils, but tolerant in more demanding, less than optimal settings, Sea Holly adapts to almost any setting that has well-drained soils. Even thriving in poor soils. Just be sure to water regularly when first planted, to ensure it gets established. Even thriving in poor soils. Just be sure to water regularly when first planted, to ensure it gets established.

Late last summer I purchased 3 Jos Eijking Sea Holly plants to add to a bed section dedicated to blue flowers that includes a concrete casting from Hosta Hollow in Hunt Valley Md. of a carp swimming thru the blue floral displays. The thriving JESH are reminiscent of blue thistle and are a welcome, unique addition and conversation addition to my garden. Low maintenance in this first year. I hope for continue success next year as I prune then this fall. I was particularly surprised by their exceptional attraction to bees. I plan to added a few in pots that I will locate near to my raised vegetable garden.

Dear Dennis,

Thank you so much for sharing such a vivid and delightful account of your experience with the Jos Eijking Sea Holly plants! We're thrilled to hear they have found a unique and cherished place alongside your beautiful blue floral bed and that their little carp sculpture companion adds to the charm. It’s fantastic that the JESH shrubs are thriving and catching the attention of bees—pollinators are such vital friends to have buzzing through any garden.

Your plan to move some into pots near your raised vegetable garden is a wonderful idea, as their bee-friendly nature can enhance pollination in that area, potentially benefiting your veggies as well. When pruning this fall, just be sure to cut back to healthy growth to encourage strong stems next year.
