Rock Steady Chaste Tree is an outstanding compact, drought-tolerant shrub from Proven Winners that delivers an extraordinary long bloom season, setting spires of lavender-purple flowers 6 to 16 weeks longer than other chaste trees. From late spring through fall, this upright, aromatic shrub is blanketed in fragrant flower spikes that are irresistible to butterflies, hummingbirds, and pollinators. Its palmate, sage-scented foliage adds textural beauty even when not in bloom, and its heat and drought tolerance make it a powerhouse performer in hot, dry landscapes.
- Lavender-purple flower spikes from late spring through fall, 6–16 weeks longer than other chaste trees
- Intensely attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds, and pollinators
- Aromatic, palmate foliage with a pleasant sage-like scent
- Upright columnar habit, 4–12 ft. tall x 4–5 ft. wide
- Outstanding drought tolerance; thrives in hot, dry conditions
- Low-maintenance; thrives in full sun with well-drained soil
- Hardy in Zones 6–9
Plant Rock Steady Chaste Tree in full sun in well-drained soil for maximum flowering and vigor. This heat- and drought-tolerant shrub thrives in the hottest, driest spots in the garden where other flowering shrubs struggle. Water during establishment, then reduce as it becomes self-sufficient. In colder zones (5–6) it may die back to the ground in winter but will re-sprout from the roots in spring, prune back dead growth in early spring. No deadheading is needed; the continuous bloom cycle takes care of itself. Exceptional for xeriscape, cottage, and pollinator-garden designs.
