Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: For the most intense fall color, plant your Burgundy Belle in full sun, which means at least six hours of direct light daily. While it can handle partial shade, you will likely see a less dramatic shift from green to deep burgundy as the temperatures drop.
  • Soil: This maple thrives in moist, well drained soil but is famous for its ability to adapt to heavy clay. If your soil is particularly sandy and dries out too fast, mix in organic compost at planting time to help the roots hold onto moisture.

Watering Requirements

During the first two growing seasons, provide 10 to 15 gallons of water per week to help the root system reach deep into the soil. Once established, this variety is remarkably drought tolerant, though a lack of deep watering during summer dry spells can lead to smaller leaves and scorched edges. Pruning Tips

The Burgundy Belle® Maple Tree PP#7,222 (Acer rubrum 'Magnificent Magenta') is a new Red Maple Tree cultivar from Earl Cully. Burgundy Belle® forms a compact, well-shaped, and symmetrical crown.

The fall color is especially nice, with the leaves initially turning a brilliant red and then changing to an intense burgundy. These vibrant, almost fluorescent, burgundy-red leaves glow in the autumn sunlight and hold for a long period of time.

The pretty red spring flowers become cute samaras that flutter like helicopters in the breeze! Growing into a rounded 40 - 45 feet in height and width, these deciduous trees are hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8 and become cold and heat-tolerant!

Provide regular moisture and a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch over the root system when young, to help your Maple become resilient to drought once established. Prune in early spring after the sap has run. It is best to train a central leader when the tree is young. Remove dead or undesirable branches and remove low-hanging branches as the tree matures.
