Planting & Care Instructions

Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: For the most intense fall color, plant your Burgundy Belle in full sun, which means at least six hours of direct light daily. While it can handle partial shade, you will likely see a less dramatic shift from green to deep burgundy as the temperatures drop.
  • Soil: This maple thrives in moist, well drained soil but is famous for its ability to adapt to heavy clay. If your soil is particularly sandy and dries out too fast, mix in organic compost at planting time to help the roots hold onto moisture.

Watering Requirements

During the first two growing seasons, provide 10 to 15 gallons of water per week to help the root system reach deep into the soil. Once established, this variety is remarkably drought tolerant, though a lack of deep watering during summer dry spells can lead to smaller leaves and scorched edges. Consistent moisture is the secret to achieving that uniform, symmetrical canopy the Burgundy Belle is known for.

Pruning Tips

Since this tree produces new growth from the tips of existing branches, it is best to prune in late winter or very early spring while the tree is still dormant. Focus on removing any branches that cross or rub against each other to improve airflow and structure. Think of this like a structural tune up that prevents storm damage and keeps the canopy looking neat without sacrificing the next season's growth.

Fertilizer Needs

Apply a balanced, slow release fertilizer in early spring just as the buds begin to swell to fuel the spring growth flush. Avoid using high nitrogen fertilizers late in the summer or fall, as this encourages tender new growth that won't have time to harden off before the first hard freeze. This protects the tree from "tip dieback" during the winter months.

The Burgundy Belle® Maple Tree PP#7,222 (Acer rubrum 'Magnificent Magenta') is a new Red Maple Tree cultivar from Earl Cully. Burgundy Belle® forms a compact, well-shaped, and symmetrical crown.

The fall color is especially nice, with the leaves initially turning a brilliant red and then changing to an intense burgundy. These vibrant, almost fluorescent, burgundy-red leaves glow in the autumn sunlight and hold for a long period of time.

The pretty red spring flowers become cute samaras that flutter like helicopters in the breeze! Growing into a rounded 40 - 45 feet in height and width, these deciduous trees are hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8 and become cold and heat-tolerant!

Landscape Application:

With an excellent symmetrical branching habit, Burgundy Belle® is a great choice for street plantings and small landscapes! The showy canopy will boost your home's curb appeal in a big, yet space-saving way!

These Maples attract various wildlife, including songbirds and game birds, giving them nesting sites and shelter while giving you and your home plenty of shade! Park one or more on the west-facing side of your home or seating areas to provide plenty of shade to reduce your cooling bills.

  • Lush Green Leaves
  • Red Stemmed Red Spring Flowers
  • Burgundy-Red Fall Color
  • Tidy Round Canopy
  • Great Shade Trees, Street Trees & Specimens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Burgundy Belle® Maple exhibits excellent heat and drought tolerance! Plant yours in a well-drained area in full sun for the best color and growth. Provide regular moisture and a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch over the root system when young, to help your Maple become resilient to drought once established. Prune in early spring after the sap has run. It is best to train a central leader when the tree is young. Remove dead or undesirable branches and remove low-hanging branches as the tree matures.

  • Full Sun
  • Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture Needs - Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Prune In Late Winter
  • Small Tree or Large Shrub With Training

Quickly becoming a favorite in the landscaping business, the positive traits of Burgundy Belle® Maple Tree make it a superior tree for landscaping in small urban settings! Order now at NatureHills.com!
