Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

- Age Indicators: Container size primarily indicates plant age and maturity rather than liquid volume equivalents
Growing Conditions
- Plant size can vary based on variety and growing conditions
- Container size helps indicate plant maturity and establishment level
- Larger containers generally mean more established root systems and faster landscape establishment

Tropical juicy blooms and sweet as can be fragrance! The Mandarin Honeysuckle (Lonicera x 'Mandarin') is a perennial woody vine with the boldest bi-color yellow and orange blossoms you'll ever see! Hummingbirds and butterflies will adore this flowering vine as much as you will as it erupts in mandarin orange blossoms from spring until frost!
The vigorous twining and climbing tendrils are covered in dark-green foliage with reddish stems that cling and grip, and quickly cover walls and fences or other eyesores! You'll be the hummingbird and pollinator hot-spot in town as they flock to your yard to sip the plentiful nectar that Honeysuckle is known for! Even the fall fruit is even ornamental!
Tenacious growers, be sure to site these correctly or they may become a nuisance. In fact, a couple of places these vigorous vines do a bit too well in, so enter your zip code in our Growing Zone Finder or check with your local County Extension Office first.
Planting and Application:
Cover walls, arbors, sheds, trellis and about anything else you want to be hidden in a hurry with this fast-growing flowering vine! Drape over garden arches for shade, train on an obelisk in your Perennial and Pollinator gardens, or let ramble over the fence behind your Cottage border to add juicy color and fragrance!
Mandarin Honeysuckle is fantastic erosion control and groundcover when it's given nothing to climb. Let sprawl and ramble over hard-to-mow hillsides or barren slopes where little else will grow. If you don't have much space, pot up your Honeysuckle in a container or planter and give it a trellis to climb! Create privacy and screening with trained vines growing up supports, or just add vertical height to a mixed planter or even a hanging basket!
- Juicy Orange & Yellow Blooms

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Honeysuckle are deciduous vines that thrive in full sun! Takes pruning like a champ and does need attention to prevent climbing where you don't want it to. Provide a well-drained yet moist location but Honeysuckle can become drought tolerant once established.
Highly conducive to pruning in the early spring, you can also prune after flowering if your plant is getting into where it shouldn't. This Honeysuckle can be hard pruned or even be mown over in winter if it gets too thick and will come back in the spring like nothing happened. Otherwise a renewal pruning every 3-5 years works great too!
- Full Sun & Partial Sun
- Moist Well-Drained Soil & Mulch
- Takes Well to Pruning
- Fairly Pest & Disease-Free
