Put on your sombrero, enjoy a day in the sun, and dazzle your neighbors with a few Sombrero® Sangrita Coneflowers (Echinacea x 'Balsomanita') in your yard! These festive and bright perennials are one of the best ways to celebrate the beauty of summer and add rich color to your garden!

It's easy to see how the Sombrero® Sangrita Coneflower earned its name. Throughout summer it blooms with sombrero-shaped blooms that are the color of sangria. These bright blooms have a daisy shape with maroon to brown cones and scarlet-red to burgundy petals tipped with perfect points. Backed by a mound of well-branched green leaves that add a coarse texture all growing season long!

The Sombrero® series of Coneflower isn't one of those plants that wilt and fade within a few days of flowering, they bloom for months! And it isn't shy when it comes to its blooms. This well-branched stunner dons a complete costume of vibrant blooms. Its stems are even a rich burgundy! Hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9, these perennials grow around 2 feet tall and wide!

Planting and Application:

Because the Sombrero® Sangrita Coneflower has strong stems and colors that don't fade, it makes a wonderful hot sunny border that embodies the heat of the summer. It also provides a burst of color to a cottage garden with its consistent reds. Its compact size and prolific blooming produce a show-stopping sight that you and your neighbors will enjoy!

Even if you don't have a yard, renters, container gardeners, and balcony gardens can enjoy Sangrita in large outdoor containers to decorate your sun-soaked patio, porch, or front entry. Don't forget to snip plenty of blooms to bring indoors for bouquets to brighten those spaces too!

This variety outperforms others with its winter hardiness and even blooms. Let the Sombrero® Sangrita Coneflower light up your garden with its vivid flowers. Perfect for the perennial border, a natural meadow, a butterfly or Pollinator Garden, and a wildlife garden! Add that explosion of color for the whole growing season! Prairies and meadows gleam with these bright blooms, Cottage borders, or mixed perennial borders become spectacles as Sombrero® freely spreads and naturalizes without becoming a problem.

These excel in the sun and excel in tougher conditions, Xeric gardens and Rock gardens. Coneflowers have deep roots that thrive in drought but also make them have increased survivability for fire! Include these plants in your fire-wise landscaping plan with other hot-toned flowers!

Space your Coneflowers 12 inches apart in a zigzagging planting pattern. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next. This technique can be used to create large mass planting to cover a wide, open space.

  • High-Impact Scarlet Blooms Summer-Long
  • Well-Branched & Prolific Flowering Summer to Fall
  • Pollinator-Friendly & Fall Seed For Birds
  • Well-Branched Compact Green Foliage
  • Wildlife & Native Garden, Sun Bed & Border, Xeric & Fire-Wise

#ProPlantTips for Care:

To keep your Sombrero® Sangrita Coneflower shining its brightest, plant it in full sun. This glowing plant will perform its best with medium moisture soil that drains well. Doing best in well-drained-soil-loving Echinacea loves the drier to poor soil areas, even tolerating clay soils, just as long as they drain. In winter the crowns can rot in soggy conditions, so ensure you have great drainage or create it by planting into a mound or raised bed. Or plant them in containers.

Use Nature Hills Root Booster when planting and topdress with 3-4 inches of Mulch and regular fertilizer to give them a boost. During the first season, please pay close attention to watering. Once these herbaceous Perennials' deep, Prairie-style roots are well-established in your soil, Sombrero® Coneflowers become waterwise. You'll get more blooms over the growing season with a regular schedule of supplemental water.

Deadhead the blooms after they are fully open for indoor flower arrangements. You'll encourage a new flush of blooms with this quick task, and decorate your home at the same time. Leave the last blooms of the season standing to give you some much-needed winter interest. They'll develop their beautiful seed heads that help feed local songbirds. In early spring, remove the spent flowers to within an inch of the ground.

  • Vigorous Full Sun Perennial
  • Well-Drained Conditions & Tolerates Poor Soil
  • Widely Adaptable - Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
  • Drought Tolerant, But Performs Best With Regular Water
  • Humidity, Heat & Cold-Tolerant

These large and showy blossoms are a butterfly favorite. Other beneficial pollinators love their enchanting reds and oranges, too. The Sombrero® Sangrita Coneflower makes everyday Cinco de Mayo for your local pollinators. Pair it with other Sombrero® varieties for festive color, large blossoms, and a playground for pollinators.
