Planting & Care

Where to Plant

  • Sunlight: This Mandevilla thrives in full sun, requiring at least six to eight hours of direct light daily to produce its signature white blooms. While it can handle partial shade, you will notice fewer flowers and more vine growth if it does not get enough sun.
  • Soil: Aim for a rich, well-draining potting mix or garden soil that feels like a wrung-out sponge. If you have heavy clay, mix in organic compost or peat moss to improve drainage, as "wet feet" will quickly lead to root rot.

Watering Requirements

During the first few weeks, water your Sun Parasol® White daily to help the root system settle into its new home. Once established, this variety is surprisingly drought-tolerant, but you should still water whenever the top inch of soil feels dry to maintain consistent blooming. If the plant goes through extreme dry spells, it may drop its lower leaves or produce smaller, stunted flowers as a stress response.

Pruning Tips

Since Sun Parasol® White blooms on new growth, you should prune it in late winter or very early spring before the spring flush begins. Think of this like a refreshing haircut: snip back overly long vines to encourage a bushier shape and more flower buds. Removing spent flowers, or deadheading, throughout the summer is not strictly necessary for health but will keep the plant looking tidy and focused on new production.

Fertilizer Needs

Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer with a slightly higher middle number (phosphorus) every two weeks during the growing season to fuel those white blossoms. Avoid applying high-nitrogen fertilizers late in the summer or autumn. Excessive nitrogen this late tells the plant to keep growing tender green vines instead of preparing for the cooler months, making it more susceptible to damage.

Shine Bright with the Sun Parasol® White Mandevilla

  • Tropical Evergreen Vine Used as an Annual in all areas
  • Long Bloom Time
  • Fast Growing Tropical
  • Wonderful Container Plant
  • Pollinator Friendly

Choose the Sun Parasol White Mandevilla (Mandevilla x 'Sunparacoho' PP22,695) for a tropical climbing evergreen vine, with showy white blossoms from Spring all the way into Fall. The shiny, dark green foliage provides a wonderfully contrasting backdrop to the bright, non-fading flowers.

Nearly twice the size of other Mandevilla flower varieties, the large and trumpet-shaped blooms of the Sun Parasol reach widths of three to five inches! This series also comes in several other color choices.

The fast-growing Sun Parasol White Mandevilla can climb 10 to 15 feet up a trellis or up climbing support out of a container, and also creates a lovely falling form out of a hanging basket.

Recommended for growing zones 10 and 11, the Sun Parasol can still be grown in cooler climates, and treated as an annual when kept outside, but can also be brought indoors during winter, as it makes a great house plant for a sunny room.

Plant in a well-drained area or container for best results, and only water as needed. The Sun Parasol prefers full to partial sun exposure for the best growth.

Deer and disease resistance are just a couple of the additional positive points for this variety. The Sun Parasol White Mandevilla is also pollinator-friendly, bringing hummingbirds and butterflies to your yard.

Order soon, so you can enjoy the gorgeous blooms all Summer!
