soul-fire-dawn-redwood
Soul Fire Dawn Redwood

Soul Fire Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Soul Fire') is a golden dawn redwood with soft needles that change color through three seasons. It grows 20 to 25 feet tall and 10 to 15 feet wide, and it thrives in zones 4 through 9.

In spring the new needles come in lime-green with a rosy-orange frosting. By summer they turn a bright chartreuse, and unlike many gold conifers they hold that color without scorching in the sun. In fall the whole tree glows bright orange before the needles drop, showing off the upright, pyramidal frame for winter.

Dawn redwood is a deciduous conifer, an ancient tree once known only from fossils. Soul Fire packs that history into a more compact size, with shorter spaces between its branches, so it fits a home landscape where the species would quickly outgrow its spot.

Plant it as a specimen on the lawn, as the focal point of a mixed border or as a bright backdrop for flowering shrubs. It takes full sun to part shade and adapts to average garden soil, from spots that stay wet in spring to ground that dries out in summer once the roots settle in. Deer tend to leave dawn redwoods alone.

Add Soul Fire Dawn Redwood to your cart for gold color that lasts from spring into fall.
