The glossy, smaller dark green leaves are heart-shaped and grow densely, making this an exceptional shade tree! The Little Leaf Linden grows best in full sun, at least 6 hours of sun a day. Linden tolerates all kinds of soils, including clay as long as it is well-drained. New trees need regular moisture their first year or so in the ground and become very drought tolerant once established. Provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the loot system to protect them from heat and cold, and protect the trunk from mower damage. Prune if needed in the late winter or early spring.
