What do you do about the space under a tree where no grass or plants will grow? I had a landscaper add rocks and mulch around the base of my maple tree. I have fun with my "container flower garden", and I like having the freedom of experimenting with different shade plants each year. Some of the plants that I use are impatiens, hosta, astilbe, potao vines, and coral bells. I planted a few tough groundcover plants of Snow on the Mountain Bishop Weed right in the ground, and they are filling in the space nicely. Since I use containers, I have the liberty of arranging the flowers and making changes as I wish.
