I think Ernesto wiped out most of the vegetation on the southern half of the island, the skeletons still stand some with green poking out the bottom half. Tangier Island, Virgina is located in the Chesapeake Bay. The older islanders say that figs and persimmons proliferated before one of the storms in the 60s. Now the switch grass has taken over.
I found a site, the teaching marsh, Williams and Mary College for tidal shoreline banks and slopes. I ordered 4 eastern red cedar, made it, 4 sweet bay magnolia, made it, 2 black cherry, made it, 2 sweet gum, dead as a door nail. I planted early April and we just had a "tide", in early spring and late fall we get astronomical high tides, they come usually just one morning and night and then are gone. The cedars were half way under.
So, my twigs planted in the front yard introduced me to my neighbors, I think the whole island 600 people are watching so see what develops. I am looking for a beach plum (prunus maritine), this site has quite a few on my list.
