Tongue Tied [:S] I need some help!

HI out there...  I am building a house and ordered 4 trees to plant.  Well my old house and lot has not been cleared just yet and my trees arrived yesterday.  Is it ok to just plant them in 5 gallon buckets until I am able to plant them in the ground since they are still small?  I have 2 Yellow Buckeyes, 1 Red Maple and 1 Crusader Hawthorne.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much.

Hi Mindy and welcome to our community. It is okay to plant the trees in containers until you are already to plant them permanently. A couple of key points though; please make sure the containers are large enough so the roots have room to spread out and that there is proper drainage for the trees. If you are using containers not designed for plants you will have to make drainage holes int he bottom of he container. Care for the trees as you would perennials and no need to fertilize the trees right away. Just plant and provide care. Hope this helps!
