    what tree to plant

I have a problem area that is mostly shaded, poor drainage and poor soil conditions, I have lost two trees in this area and was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for what type of tree, if any would do well in these conditons.I live in zone 5.

    Thanks

    Teresa,

What trees have you tired in that spot? When you descrive poor drainage, is there water standing?

We have planted (and lost ) a contorted filbert, a camperdown elm , and a weeping cherry. There is no standing water, just very moist soil all the time, and only a little sun in the AM & PM.

    Teresa,

With the conditions you are working with I would try one of the following trees; hackberry, red maple, red oak or a dogwood.  Your spot is challenging as the lack of sunlight and moist conditions is not conducive to many trees. Good luck!

Try a bay tree.  My bay (the kind you use to cook with) tree is on the edge of a dried up creek, completely shaded by Calif oaks. I do nothing to it, and it just gets bigger and bigger.
