Which ones would you like to attract?

Different types of butterflies like different types of nectar. I figured out which flowers bring the most butterflies. I started with the aster. I think it's the color that mostly attracts them first. Because they are bright blue. Beautiful in their own right. You can also try the Black-eyed susan. They something like dandolians but their middle is black. I ended up using the Butterfly weed. These flowers are seen to be butterflies pickings. They are bright red and are filled with wonderful nectar. There are many many flowers that you can use but try these first to see if they attract  just enough butterflies to liven up your garden.

As a child I liked butterflies but as an adult I am not so hot on them. Many the fact that they come from caterpillars and I don't like seeing them around, nor the chrysalis that they make. I guess that makes me a bit of a spoil sport!

    LOL, a spoil sport!  HA!!

It just means that you  want a garden that does'nt attract them.  I love the little things.  I think it's amazing the changes they go through to become such beautiful creatures.

My favorite color is blue so I like to attract Lycaenidae (gossamer-wings).  I also like the Swallowtails because of thier beautiful shapes and markings.  Although I like the Cabbage White Butterfly- I have to be careful because the caterpillar is fond of garden vegetables- and I would hate to see my garden ruined :(

Ha, my last garden was taken over by caterpillars last year and I almost had a heart attack. I had to start all over. What is it that I did wrong or what should I do different this time?

I love to attract the monarchs.  I found out that since moving 3 years ago,

they fly right through our area in south Texas.

I don't know that you did anything wrong. I thought you wanted to attract butterflies, but how could you do that without attracting the caterpillars that they come from too?
