    weeping cherry

my weeping cherry "suddenly" has branches/leaves reaching and resting about 2-3 inches on the ground. When and how much should i prune them?

I also have a weeping cherry, and the branches are also resting on the ground.  I found this website looking for answers to the same questions.  Also, my tree's trunk has been "sculpted" so that it twists, and the trunk, unlike many weeping cherry trees, is the actual cherry tree, not a host tree for propagated (right word?) cherry branches.  I'm not sure if I need to do anything to it -- just let it go, or try to keep it twisting/curving?

It's best to prune those long cherry branches after the tree blooms.  Prune them back as far as you like, as it will not hurt the health of the tree.  The weeping cherry that grows over our driveway has branches that sometimes get long enough to brush the car as it passes underneath.  We prune them back a couple of feet with no problem.
