Ixia Bulbs

Ixia are lesser known bulbs, but truly excellent fall planted bulbs that love the sun and heat. They are sometimes called the African Corm Lily.  Place them in well drained, rich, fertile soil; plant them about 3 inches deep.   Use Ixia in borders, beds, containers,  and perennial gardens,.

Ixia cut flowers will last 2 weeks or more.  Cut the 2 foot wand-like stems that hold rows of little cups in wonderful colors.  They come in pink, yellow, orange and red, and they have dark, contrasting centers.

Ixia Pink Emperor is a fall planted bulb and produces beautiful pink flowers among sword-like leaves.  The long flower stems are adorned with the star-shaped flowers.  Pink Emperor blooms from June until August.

If you want a stunning red flower from June until August,  plant Ixia Red Emperor in the fall.   It produces beautiful red flowers on long wand-like flower stems that are adorned with the star-shaped brilliant red flowers.

Leave Ixia in the ground, and if they get too crowded, lift the corms in summer for fall replanting.  They will reproduce easily and give you years of colorful pleasure.
