What Is The Best Time To Prune My Goldenrain Tree?

The Goldenrain tree 'Koelreuteria paniculata' is one of the most beautiful trees that you can grow if you live in Zones 4-8. Along with its beautiful yellow summer bloom followed by great fall color makes this tree a must have by many who are designing or developing their landscape. The tree is quite adaptable in many soil conditions and is very tough and durable.

So when should I trim my tree? Late winter or early spring is the best time to prune your tree. If you have a newly planted tree, do not prune the tree for the first two years. When your tree reaches 7 - 8 feet tall you can prune the lower limbs which will allow the top branches to spread. Pruning the interior upright branches when the tree is young will make the tree grow outward and cause a lateral spread of the branches.

A little pruning effort each spring will yield you a fantastic centerpiece for your yard.
