Being sweet, juicy, and white, with a milid distinct flavor, the 'Donut' Peach is most noted for its rather strange shape. This peach is an ancient Chinese pan tao peach; also called Peento peach or Chinese flat peach.
‘Donut’ Peach is a doughnut-shaped "flat" fruit with a sunken center and plump outer edge. Having overtones of almond and honey, this clingstone peach is tender and low in acid; high in Vitamins A and C. It will fit in the palm of your hand; it’s about 3 to 3 1/2 inches across and half as tall.
The ‘Donut’ peach tree is a heavy producer; one tree will produce nearly twice as many peaches as other peach trees. It is frost hardy, self fruitful, and blooms earlier and heavier in spring than most other peach varieties. Harvest will begin in late June or July.
Peach trees need clear, hot weather during their growing season and require well-drained soil, as well as, a regular fertilizing program. They also require heavier pruning than any other fruit trees to maintain size and encourage new growth.
