Freesia are herbaceous plants that grow from a corm. With its elegant
form and long vase life, Freesia endears itself to anyone who arranges flowers,
professionally or otherwise. Freesia are most famous, however, for their
intense sweet citrusy perfume, which can envelope an entire room. If fragrance
is your thing, these blossoms are guaranteed to delight!
Freesia need to be planted 2 inches apart in good, well drained soil in
sun or light shade. In warm areas, plant corms in the fall but in colder areas,
plant outdoor in the spring.
Keep
the soil moist during the growing season and fertilize monthly. Freesia
requires full sun and protection. They do best where the nights are cool.
After blooming, let the foliage die back, then lift and store the bulbs indoors.
Freesia can be a houseplant if you plant them in pots. Keep them cool
and in a well ventilated area. Water lightly and do not let the plant dry out.
