Are Begonias tubers?

Begonias are tubers that can be started indoors in the spring; about 6 weeks before the last frost.  Begonias are popular in flowerbeds, for hanging baskets, as container plants, and for indoor houseplants.  That's one versatile plant!

Like true queens, tuberous begonias aren't inclined to relinquish their throne after a single season.  These tubers are easy to lift and store for many years of magnificent displays.  In the garden, begonias need rich, porous, well drained soil and shelter from wind.  They need to be spaced 12 inches apart in shade or partial shade.  Keep them moist and do fertilize at least once a month.  In windy areas you may need to stake them.  Your Begonias can be brought indoors before frost.  Remember, they will die in a light frost, so if one threatens your area, don't wait!

Begonias are prized equally for their flower as well as their showy leaves. When they are not in bloom, which is infrequent once established, their attractive, waxy green or chocolate colored leaves show themselves off wherever you have placed them.

Growing Begonias is easy. They make a good indoor houseplants since they tolerate shade well.
