No garden is free of pests. In fact, there are many insects that are actually beneficial to your garden. It is important to be careful when using pesticides, as you do not want to harm the insects that aid your plants in the growing process. A good rule of thumb is to avoid using pesticides until there is not other option, like situations of infestation.
Pesticides can be comprised of a variety of things. Some are organic, while others are synthetic. Gardeners often prefer to go with organic materials (onces consisting of bacteria, minerals, plants, fungii, etc) as they are quickly absorbed into the surrounding environment without causing harm to area.
Make sure to apply pesticides to only the affected plants and be sure that you are treating for the right type of insect. Choose a pesticide that won't harm useful insects, such as bees. If you don't want to use hash chemicals, there are a variety of home "receipes" for mild alternatives made out of simple household products.
