Creating good food supplies for wild turkey is not a huge task because turkeys are quite versatile with their food choices. Preferred foods for turkeys include acorns, beechnuts, corn, flowering dogwood, berries, wild grape, pine seeds and other agricultural products such as small grains. The acorns and nuts can be made available by planting oak and beechnut trees and cone producing pine trees. Good producing acorn trees would include, Sawtooth Oak 'Quercus acuisssima', Gobbler Sawtooth Oak 'Quercus acutissima "Gobbler", and White Oak 'Quercus alba'.
Smaller trees such as the flowering dogwoods will produce berries that the turkeys are quite fond of. The bright red drupes of dogwood appear in the fall and the fruit often lasts into December or until it is devoured by birds. Other berry producing plants such as Blueberries and Mulberries are good sources of fall food along with the seeds of many grasses.
