Charming, compact, and reblooming, This compact reblooming Daylily is a flower factory! While each gorgeous flower only lasts a day, there are hundreds produced over its long season of bloom time. The lavender-purple flowers of Purple de Oro Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Purple De Oro') attract butterflies and hummingbirds, as well as second glances from the neighbors.

Love the carefree yellow Stella de Oro Daylily that looks so good all growing season long? Well, this is a fabulous purple version of that famous plant. Purple de Oro Daylily takes the charm of its sister and adds a deep, delicious color to the petals. The trumpet-shaped blossoms are irresistible to Hummingbirds!

The luxurious blooms are reddish-purple in color and feature a slightly ruffled edge to the main petals. They will be amazingly ornamental from late spring through fall. Just think of these as a plant version of the Energizer Bunny. Purple de Oro Daylily is famous for its continuous blooms from May to October, giving you plenty of cut flowers for bouquets.

The plants stay compact and low. Even out of bloom, the strappy mounds of green foliage add an elegant look to your design. The beautiful bladed leaves arch outward surrounding the stems rising out of the center of the plants. This herbaceous perennial plant is classified as a miniature, with the flowers rising above the compact mound of strappy green foliage. Cold and heat-tolerant throughout USDA growing zones 2 to 9, Daylily are pest and disease-issue free!

Planting and Application:

The deeply colored flowers are restful, sophisticated, and you'll never grow tired of them! Your local pollinators and hummingbirds will agree! And you'll appreciate their carefree nature! Mix with other Daylilies for an impactful, easy-care look, as a wonderful Xeric landscape plant and is on many fire-scaping lists.

Repeating the use of Purple de Oro Daylily will tie together your entire landscape. They also look marvelous as low edging for walkways and around the mailbox. Don't forget to include a few in your containers on the patio or porch. Add de Oro as a Filler in large containers of mixed flowering plants for the patio or pool deck. Or, feature them by themselves in a series of smaller individual containers for continual summer color. Style them your way to personalize your landscape!

Pair with Stella de Oro to create dynamic color patterns in the landscape. Bright yellow Stella de Oro will coordinate beautifully with the yellow-throated Purple de Oro. Both of these low growers look great when repeated in a mixed perennial garden, as edging, and as facer plants! We recommend using at least 3 of each variety to create a big visual impact. Choose to run these graceful, easy-care plants along the edge of all your garden beds for a coordinated effect!

These rugged plants can handle themselves in Rock Gardens, in cottage borders, and make beautiful partners at the base of Ornamental Grasses. Add to commercial landscape projects to soften the forefront of the planting and add delicious color interest.

There is nothing like a mass planting of Daylilies in bloom! Use a long ribbon of individual plants or use rows after rows of them as a bedding plant to completely fill the interior of a garden bed. This is truly a flowering plant that works in every garden. Use it in the front of your garden border, along walkways, and in street-side hell strips. To create a continuous display, plant 2 feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of one plant to the center of the next. For mass plantings, use a staggered, zig-zagging planting pattern. Mulch between plants and keep them weeded until they grow together. It won't take long!

Did you know that the flowers of the Daylily are edible? All parts of the Daylily can be eaten. Add to your Kitchen Garden to jazz it up a little. Harvest the flower shoots when they first appear in the spring when they are tender. Chop them up and add to stir fry or pasta dishes. The flowers are also a popular, colorful addition to green salads. Amaze your guests!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

The de Oro series can survive harsh conditions that many other plants cannot. These herbaceous perennials require little maintenance throughout the year to keep performing their best. The plant prefers full sun with at least 8 hours of direct sunlight for the best performance. It might appreciate partial shade in the afternoon in the hottest summers. Please ensure your Daylilies are planted in well-draining soil and that your planters have good drainage too. They are adaptable and durable once established in your soil. After the first few seasons, they'll be able to handle limited exposure to drought, and even survive periodically wet soil conditions, if the drainage is good. Add a 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch over the soil surface for best results!

Spent blooms can be deadheaded during the summer to keep the plants reblooming. Once all the buds are done, trim the entire stem out. Daylilies are susceptible to rust and some other foliage diseases so for that reason it is very important to cut all of the foliage to the ground in late fall after the plants have been exposed to a couple of frosts. Removing the foliage before winter prevents the overwintering of disease on the old leaves so it is best to always clean them up and dispose of the old foliage each year. In colder hardiness zones 4-8, the foliage may die back to the roots for winter and regrow from the crown in the spring, but in warmer climates, Daylilies can sometimes remain evergreen. Every 3-5 years, it is recommended you divide the clumps to keep them growing vigorously.
