The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

The first-ever fragrant, double Coneflower is the brilliant Cone-fections™ Hot Papaya Coneflower PP 21,022 (Echinacea purpurea 'Hot Papaya') from Proven Winners®! This incredible introduction sports one of the largest Coneflower blooms around! Hot Papaya provides a season-long colorful display of outstanding, two-toned, double-layered daisy-like flowers. You can't beat the intensity of this color, which will bring a brilliant show to a sunny location!

This Echinacea boasts large, two-toned, dark and light papaya-red and orangy-colored blooms! Instead of the usual Coneflower spikey domed center, Cone-fections™ Hot Papaya features a second layer of short, toothy ray petals for a unique flower! The deep orange-yellow central cone grows larger as the flower matures and rises higher as it opens!

These long-lasting flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds and provide lots of vital nectar resources for a wide range of beneficial pollinators! These large and showy blossoms are a butterfly favorite! Other beneficial insects love their enchanting reds and oranges, too! The Hot Papaya is a unique landing pad for your local Pollinators!

Did we mention this beauty is fragrant? Plus the novelty blooms are great in cut flower arrangements! The strong stems provide intensely saturated color as a focal point and are tall enough to use as thrillers in your bouquets! And when it's not in bloom, its lance-shaped foliage will keep your garden green and lively!

The intense color of this Coneflower will not fade no matter how hot or sunny. Delightfully easy to grow and low-maintenance perennials, Cone-fections™ Coneflowers are hardy throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 9 and this big specimen grows 30-34 inches in height when in bloom! Keep the flowers returning with regular deadheading and watch as the well-branched stems pump out the showiest flowers on the block until frost!

Planting and Application:

Show off these large 3" blooms in a prominent place in your garden. Any sunny site is a perfect location, adding a glowing red-hot ember that will be sure to fire up the dreary landscape! The coarse foliage is a wonderful green, providing the perfect backdrop for the brilliant blossoms!

When not in bloom, the foliage is fantastic to highlight your other sun-loving perennial plants throughout the garden. Plant among other hot-colored perennials such as Black-Eyed Susans, Butterfly Weed Plant, Blanket Flower, Gaillardia, and Red Hot Poker Plants! Or display this unique Coneflower all on its own as a fantastic specimen and focal point plant!

Great as a Perennial garden focal point, or as tough edging plants, let these long-lasting blooms lead you down your walkways or paths! Its compact size and prolific blooming produce a show-stopping sight that you and your neighbors will enjoy!

It makes a wonderful hot and sunny border resident that embodies the heat of the summer. It also provides a burst of color to a Rock Garden, Cottage garden, front yard foundation border or front yard berm with its consistent red and orange color! Use these prairie natives to naturalize meadows and spice up boring prairie restoration projects with an injection of hot, bold color and whimsical form! These are fantastic additions to any Cutting Garden! You'll really spice up your floral arrangements and bouquets with fiery colors and blooms that won't fade.

Hot Papaya really shows its stuff when planted in Firewise landscaping plans, xeric gardens, groups or en masse for an outstanding swath of beauty in your landscape! Talk about an eye-catching display that will slow down traffic passing your house!

For smaller, yet no less dramatic installations, plant Hot Papaya in your favorite barrel or planter as a dramatic focal point! The size of this perennial makes it great for use as an impressive thriller in your larger containers and on hot sunny patios! You'll have free-flowering blooms from mid-summer through frost. That's months of color!

You'll love watching butterflies and wonderful Goldfinch and songbirds flit from flower to flower, and so will your friends and family. You'll also not worry about uninvited guests since deer and rabbits rarely bother with these perennials.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Echinacea Hot Papaya is a full sun-loving herbaceous perennial. Any hot sunny garden plot is fantastic for these long-lasting blooms. Reaching about 3 feet in height at maturity, Coneflower forms dense clumps of mounded foliage that stays put where it's planted.

This tough plant is drought tolerant once established but will perform its best with medium moisture soil that drains very well. Use a raised bed, or grow them in containers if you have poorly drained soil that retains water for a long time. Not particular on soil type, any well-drained soil that's been enriched with compost and mulched is best. All plants appreciate being planted with Nature Hills Root Booster for life-long symbiotic root support, and a nice blanketing of 3-4 inches of arborist bark chips.

Hot Papaya usually reblooms without deadheading, but if spent flowers are removed, this will encourage continued beautiful blooms and improve the general appearance. If you leave some spent blooms on the plants in the fall, their seeds provide winter food for birds. You can enjoy the dried seed heads as well because they will provide architectural interest in the winter. Divide clumps when they become overcrowded, about every 4 years.

This plant is deer and rabbit resistant so don't worry about planting this in out-of-the-way locations.

  • Hardy & Full Sun!
  • Any Well-Drained Soil Location
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
  • Deadhead For Rebloom & Divide Every 4 Years
  • Deer Resistant, Drought-Tolerant, Heat, Sun, & Cold-Tolerant

Native Echinacea does well in most of the country with very little care. Tough, vigorous Coneflowers tolerate even rookie gardeners. This fantastic Coneflower cultivar maintains these hardy native roots and looks beautiful doing it! We can't think of a nicer housewarming present!
