Understanding Our Container Sizes
At Nature Hills, our plants are sold in industry-standard nursery containers. You will notice we use the word "container" rather than "gallon." Container numbers follow a nursery trade size standard, not liquid volume. The number tells you the plant's size category and general maturity level. A larger container means a more established plant with a stronger root system.

Container Sizes
Quart
Plant age: 6 months to 1 year
Best for: Ground covers, perennials, ornamental grasses
What to expect: Our smallest and most affordable size. Well-suited for planting in multiples across a large area. Allow 1 to 2 seasons for full establishment.
#1 Container
Plant age: 1 to 2 years
Best for: Shrubs, perennials, smaller trees
What to expect: About the size of a large coffee can. A well-developed root system in a manageable size. Good value choice when you have time to let the plant grow into the space over a season or two.
#2 Container
Plant age: 2 to 3 years
Best for: Shrubs and trees where you want faster establishment
What to expect: A noticeable step up from a #1 in both plant size and root development. Good choice when you want visible presence without going to a larger size.
#3 Container
Plant age: 3 to 4 years
Best for: Most plants, most situations — flowering trees, shade trees, evergreen shrubs
What to expect: Our most popular size. Strong, developed root system. Plants in a #3 container make an immediate visual impact from day one. If you want a head start rather than waiting seasons for a plant to fill in, this is typically the right choice.
#5 Container and Larger
Plant age: 4 to 5+ years
Best for: Specimen plants, privacy screens, maximum instant impact
What to expect: Large, mature plants ready to make an immediate statement in your landscape. We also carry #7 and larger sizes for select varieties.
Why "Container" and Not "Gallon"?
Nursery container sizes follow an industry trade standard established for the nursery and horticulture industry. The number is a size designation, not a measurement of liquid volume. Actual soil volume varies by plant type, root mass, and growing medium. Using "container" is the accurate industry term. When you see #1, #2, or #3, think of it as the plant's size tier, not a gallon measurement.
Root Pouch Containers
Some Nature Hills plants arrive in a Root Pouch, a breathable fabric container made from 100% recycled materials. Root Pouches encourage denser root development through air pruning, which discourages root circling and promotes a stronger, more fibrous root ball at the time of planting.

There are two types. Knowing which one you have changes how you plant:
- Degradable (brown or tan fabric): Plant the entire pouch directly in the ground. The fabric breaks down naturally in the soil over time.
- Non-degradable (black or gray fabric): Remove the pouch before planting. Cut the bottom open with scissors, then peel the sides away. The fibrous root ball will hold its shape.
Not sure which type you have? Check the tag on your plant or contact us and we will confirm.

Description
Heavenly scent and buttery blooms for weeks! The Scentsation Honeysuckle Vine (Lonicera periclymenum 'Scentsation') from Proven Winners® ColorChoice® is hands down the most fragrant Honeysuckle Vine you will ever grow! The name really says it all! It is truly scent-sational!
This hardy vine gets its great scent not from just the single flowers, but from the sheer amount of flowers it produces! The beautiful white and yellow trumpet clusters just keep blooming on this vine in waves all summer and into the fall. Each flower has its own individually strong aroma, but together it's like a perfume store exploded in your garden.
The flowers are butter-yellow and super showy. Butterflies and Hummingbirds fall all over themselves to get to this great vine! Adapting to any style garden, these tame vines fill your landscape with color quickly! The long-lasting blooms are even suitable for indoor floral arrangements, filling your bouquets with sweet-smelling blooms.
Scentsation was originally bred in Herefordshire, England, and is hardy to -20 to -30 degrees Fahrenheit! It thrives in full sun, but does well in light shade, too, especially in the hottest areas of USDA hardiness zones 4-9.
Planting and Application:
Make sure you give this big boy plenty of room to stretch out! It needs a big trellis, wall, fence or large sturdy support, but once it goes, watch out! You'll quickly gain shade, space-saving privacy, and fragrance anywhere Scentsation is planted! Reaching near full height in a single growing season, this type of Honeysuckle is an amazing grower!
Despite being a fast-growing climbing vine, it won't get into trouble in the landscape, Scentsation will ramble up trellis, fences, and any place you encourage it to do so! A delicious blend of white and creamy lemony-yellow, whimsical flowers smother this vigorous vine of vibrant green as it twists and turns around your garden supports.
Fantastic growing up the columns of your pergolas and gazebos. No pollinator garden or Cottage Garden worth its salt should be without something to attract butterflies and other visitors!
The Scentsation Honeysuckle would create a dramatic effect climbing a trellis or your front porch rail. Filling an area with deep blue-green foliage and bright blooms, these even work amazingly well in containers and act as both the upright thriller and a flowing spiller.
Lovely climbing over fences and hiding unsightly views while enhancing your own! These act as semi-evergreen in warmer growing zones and provide lush backdrop plants among your beds and borders or as a backdrop to a breakfast bistro set, or a garden bench.
Not only does Scentsation look and smell good all growing season, but it's a functional part of the landscape too! Beautifully spilling over retaining walls and rambling over hardscapes as an informal groundcover or erosion control. This vigorous vine can be trained into a sprawling, cascading shrub or grown without support so it trails along the ground like living mulch or a flowering groundcover. It's so adaptable to many conditions and very easy to manage!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
These non-invasive albeit vigorous vines are easy to grow, and resistant to powdery mildew, Honeysuckle even tolerates some drought, plus they are deer-resistant and extremely hardy! Just provide good air circulation and water to keep these going strong all summer!
Loving the full sun, these are tolerant of partial sun, especially when planted in hotter climates, appreciating afternoon shade as relief from the summer sun. Not particular about soil type, Honeysuckle Vines loves any well-drained soil that ranges from acidic to alkaline. Highly pest and disease-resistant and very adaptable.
Flowering the best in average moisture, Scentsation is very drought tolerant once established. Extremely easy-care and low maintenance, these won't need pruning but are highly conducive to pruning. These vines bloom on new growth, so prune early spring before they begin to grow if needed.
Take care when applying lawn fertilizers near flowering shrubs. These high-nitrogen formulas are designed to produce foliage, but will not support flower development. Instead, apply an all-purpose fertilizer for blooming plants in early spring. Reapply in mid-summer, following label directions for application rates. Or you can apply a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch and compost around the base of your Honeysuckle to keep it happy!
